XNR-400A MFI
I General introduction:
XNR-400A MFI is of simple structure, easy operation, high accuracy, stable and reliable performance and high automation. It is used to indicate the MFR, the MVR and the melt density of thermoplastic resin. It is adequate for not only engineering plastics with high melting temperature such as polycarbonate, fluoroplastic, and nylon, but also the plastics with low melting temperature such as , polypropylene, polystyrene, ABS resin and acetaldehyde resin. It is widely used in plastic production and petrochemical industry, and also in related institutions, research units and commodity inspection department.

IV principle and structure
MFI is actually a plastic-extrusion instrument, which makes the specimen melt at the set temperature by using high-temperature furnace. Then the melt specimen is intruded though the standard outlet under the normal load. Melt flow rate refers to the weight of the specimen that flows through the standard outlet per ten minutes under a certain load at a certain temperature.
Melt flow rate is referred to by MFR, whose unit is g/10min.
The formula is: MFRθ,Mnom=tref *M/t
Here:
θ→test temperature,
Mnom →normal load, kg
tref→reference time(10min), s(600s)
M→average weight of specimen strip, g
t→time interval of cutting, s
Example: a specimen is under test. The time interval of cutting is 30s and the cutting times are five times. We get five specimen strips: 0.0816g, 0.0862g, 0.0815g, 0.0895g, 0.0825g.
Average weight of specimen strip is:
M= (0.0816+0.0862+0.0815+0.0895+0.0825)g/5=0.0843g
So the melt flow rate is:
MFR=600×0.0843/30=1.686(g/10min)
This apparatus is mainly composed of the heating furnace and temperature control system. The temperature control system is arranged in the base and the fuselage, which adopts micro-computer to control temperature with the advantages of high anti-jamming capacity, high precision of temperature control, and fine control stability. The upper part of the apparatus is the heating furnace in which the heating wires are intertwined around the pure copper rod according to a certain law, in order to make the temperature gradient the smallest to meet the standards. The control panel embedded in the base is used to set test parameters, such as test temperature of the furnace.
V Usage:
This machine is of table model and LCD display. The user can set the temperature, the times of cutting the specimen strip and the time interval of cutting. Then the furnace begins to heat and when the temperature is reached, make sure the highest temperature keeps constant for at least 15 minutes. Take the piston-rod out, and put the prepared specimen into the cylinder by loading hopper and loading rod. Then put the piston-rod back. The whole loading process should be completed within 1 minute. In 4 minutes, put the normal test weight on the piston. Specimen plate will be placed on under the mouth outlet. When the lower ring marked on piston-rod goes down to the top of the guide sleeve, cut the former specimen strip. Then it will cut the specimen strip according to the times and time interval set by the user. Generally, three to five pieces of specimen strip are needed. Then use a balance to measure the weight of the cooled specimen strips and calculate the average weight. Input the average weight on the control panel and the result will be printed out.
